California's Pacific Pocket Mouse Reintroduced After 33 Years
Since the rediscovery of California's Pacific pocket mouse in 1993, conservationists have worked to revive its populations. Over 530 mice have been reintroduced into native habitats since 2006 by the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. A third population was recently established in North San Mateo, and genetic rescue efforts are underway to enhance genetic diversity among these populations.
