SciencePhoto: HT WorldCalifornia Removes 8-Foot Dam, Reopens 9 Miles for Salmon
In 2022, California Trout and partners removed an 8-foot concrete dam from Cedar Creek, a tributary of the South Fork Eel River, reopening 9 miles of habitat for salmon and steelhead. The dam had blocked fish migration for over 60 years. By August 2023, 34 juvenile coho salmon were observed upstream, showing successful recolonization after decades of blockage.
