Cabinet Approves Rs 2,814 Cr Scheme for Critical Mineral Processing
The Cabinet approved a Rs 2,814 crore scheme to boost domestic processing of lithium and nickel, aiming to reduce import dependence on critical minerals. The plan includes capital subsidies for four plants—two lithium and two nickel—with capacities of 30,000 and 50,000 tonnes respectively. The scheme runs until FY31 and also targets cobalt recovery as a by-product. PM Modi emphasized the need for self-reliance in mineral processing.
