Cabinet Approves ₹2,009 Crore Diwali Bonus for Railway Staff

The Union Cabinet approved a ₹2,009.61 crore productivity-linked bonus for 1.14 million railway employees as a Diwali gift. Each eligible non-gazetted employee can receive up to ₹17,951. The bonus rewards Indian Railways' 2025-26 performance, which included 1,670 million tonnes of freight and 7.41 billion passengers. The Cabinet also extended the National Social Assistance Programme with a ₹53,428 crore outlay for 2026-31.
