The recent shooting at actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area has highlighted Bollywood's ongoing issues with underworld violence and extortion. Since the 1960s, Mumbai’s criminal networks, including figures like Haji Mastan, have influenced the film industry through financing and coercion. The 1980s and 1990s saw increased threats, attacks, and extortion attempts targeting producers, directors, and actors, including the 1994 murder of producer Javed Riyaz Siddiqui.
