BMTC Raises Bus Fares by 35%, Other RTCs by 23% in Karnataka

The Karnataka government has increased Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus fares by an average of 35%, the steepest hike since 2009, effective from Wednesday midnight. Other state transport corporations (RTCs) saw a 23% fare increase. Transport Minister Byrathi Suresh cited rising diesel costs, employee salaries, and liabilities totaling Rs 9,912.1 crore as reasons. Minimum BMTC fare rose 65% to Rs 10, maximum fare increased 30% to Rs 45.
