BitMart Confirms Security Breach Linked to Mercado Bitcoin Attack

BitMart founder Sheldon Xia confirmed a security breach on November 2, with evidence suggesting the attackers may be connected to the Mercado Bitcoin hack reported the same day. Blockchain analytics traced about $391,000 in suspicious withdrawals from wallets linked to BitMart, starting 53 minutes before the larger attack. BitMart has not revealed total losses or access details. The exchange plans to shut down by January 31, 2027.
