Bhutan Sets Guinness Record by Raising 108 Stupas in 9 Hours
Bhutan set a Guinness World Record by erecting 108 Buddhist stupas in nine hours on November 1, 2026, in Gelephu. About 40,000 volunteers worked in teams to build the 14-meter tall stupas spaced 108 meters apart along the Mau Chhu River. The event marked King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's 18th coronation anniversary and coincided with the Day of Lord Buddha’s Descent and Mother’s Day.
