WorldBhajans Shift from Traditional to Clubbing Culture
Bhajans, traditional Hindu devotional songs, are now part of clubbing culture, influenced by American Gospel Rock bands. Politicians use this trend to attract Gen Z. The 19th-century bhajan 'Om Jai Jagdish Hare,' composed by Shraddha Ram Phillauri in Punjab, reflects colonial influence and a shift from erotic to monotheistic devotional themes. Phillauri, a translator of Gospels into Gurmukhi, modeled the bhajan on Psalms, omitting traditional Vishnu imagery and stories.
