Citizens and animal welfare activists in Bengaluru have urged the Karnataka government to crack down on the sale and bursting of non-green firecrackers ahead of Deepavali. Advocate Alwyn Sebastian filed a complaint on October 20 seeking surprise inspections of warehouses, shops, and transport depots to seize non-compliant crackers. The group highlighted air and noise pollution, unsafe storage, and risks to pedestrians, children, and animals, citing the 2023 Attibele fire that killed 17 people. They also called for bans on bursting crackers in public and silence zones, designated fireworks spaces, and monitoring of interstate transport and online sales.
