Belagavi Sugar Factories Begin 2026-27 Cane Crushing Season

Sugar factories in Belagavi district have started the 2026-27 sugarcane crushing season over a month late. Of the 29 factories, 12 are private and 17 cooperative. Despite symbolic furnace lighting, actual crushing was delayed due to farmers' protests demanding higher prices. The protests ended after factories agreed to pay Rs 3,600 per tonne and share profits with farmers.
