WorldBangladesh Urges Dialogue to Resolve India Water-Sharing Disputes
Bangladesh has called for resolving its long-standing water-sharing disputes with India through dialogue and diplomacy. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir emphasized the need for political commitment from both sides to reach an agreement. Negotiations on transboundary rivers and the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty are ongoing. Bangladesh also seeks a new, longer-term treaty instead of merely extending the 1996 agreement, which expires in December 2023.
