BusinessBanana Prices Fall in Drought-Hit Jalgaon Amid Export Disruptions
Wholesale banana prices in Jalgaon, Maharashtra's largest banana-producing district, have dropped to their lowest due to drought and export disruptions to conflict-hit West Asia. Inferior bananas sell for ₹5 per kg, better quality for ₹11. Iran, a major importer, has reduced purchases. Farmer Vishnu Samadhan Ingle destroyed his four-acre plantation after traders offered only ₹3 per kg, below his costs. The drought and export issues have caused distress among farmers.
