In Adelaide, Australia, Ashton Friend, 20, avoided immediate jail after being sentenced for the hit-and-run death of international student Samia Malik. Malik, 20, was kneeling and appeared to be praying on North East Road when struck around 11 pm on May 6, 2025. Friend pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and leaving the scene, claiming he did not realize he hit a person.
