Australia Uses Recycled Plastic for Durable Railway Sleepers Since 2015
Since 2015, Australia has been producing railway sleepers made from about 85% recycled post-consumer plastic waste, including agricultural plastics and polystyrene. Developed by Integrated Recycling and Monash University's Institute of Railway Technology, these Duratrack sleepers are designed to last up to 50 years, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional materials and reducing landfill waste.
