Australia Eradicates Rabbits, Boosts Gould’s Petrel Breeding by 2000
Australia successfully eradicated rabbits from Cabbage Tree Island in 1997, leading to a significant rise in Gould’s petrel populations. By 2000, over 800 breeding pairs were recorded, producing more than 400 offspring annually. Conservationists also established a second breeding colony on Boondelbah Island to support the species' recovery and emphasize continued protection efforts.
