Astronomers Detect Radio Waves from Exoplanet 63 Light-Years Away
Astronomers have detected radio emissions directly from the exoplanet Beta Pictoris b, located 63 light-years from Earth. The signals indicate an exceptionally strong magnetic field, likely caused by auroras similar to Earth's northern lights. Beta Pictoris b is a gas giant about 12 times the mass of Jupiter, orbiting a young star 1.75 times the mass of the sun. This discovery marks the first direct radio detection from an exoplanet.
