Assam to Resume Foreign Trade via Brahmaputra After Eight Decades

Assam is set to reconnect with international markets through the Brahmaputra River after nearly 80 years. Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APL) will send 1,080 tons of methanol to Bangladesh via two cargo ships departing from the new inland water transport terminal at Bogibeel. Each ship will carry 27 containers, each holding about 20 tons of methanol. The river journey to the Bangladesh border covers approximately 783 kilometers and is expected to take around seven days. This marks the first commercial cargo movement from Dibrugarh to a foreign destination via the Brahmaputra since India's independence.
