PoliticsAssam Farmers Oppose Government's Oil Palm Plan on Grazing Land
Farmers in Golaghat district, Assam, have opposed the State government's plan to cultivate oil palm on grazing land traditionally used by indigenous communities along riverbanks. The land at No. 1 Bokuli Sapori, under Bokakhat Assembly constituency, is reportedly being taken over despite promises to sow rabi crops. The Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora represents this area. Locals claim officials planted oil palm saplings without informing them.
