Before the festival season, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed preparations at Rail Bhavan's 'war room'. He highlighted the current peak congestion due to increased coal and goods transport. Over the past decade, 36,000 km of new tracks were added. To ease pressure, major corridors connecting Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai are being expanded to four lanes, enabling over 1,000 additional regular trains soon, reducing waiting lists and reservations.
