In Arunachal Pradesh's East Siang district, local Adi tribe leaders report rising tensions as seven more protesters against the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) were arrested. The BJP-led state government is taking strict actions against opposition to the dam, intended to counter China's massive dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra). The SUMP, a national project since 2008, plans an 11,000 MW dam with 9.2 billion cubic meters storage, but local protests have stalled construction.
