Army Seeks to Dismiss Major Over Affairs with Officers' Wives

The Indian Army intends to dismiss a Major accused of extramarital affairs with the wives of two fellow officers. Instead of a court-martial, the Army issued a show-cause notice on August 10 under Army Rules 19 and 14, citing the circumstances as making a court-martial inexpedient. The Major challenged this at the Armed Forces Tribunal, which allowed the process to continue but ordered disclosure of inquiry findings. The case began after a complaint from his then-wife alleging adultery, substance abuse, and neglect.
