Andhra Pradesh HC Quashes 33% BC Reservation in Local Body Polls

On October 1, the Andhra Pradesh High Court invalidated the state government's decision to reserve 33% of local body seats for Backward Classes (BCs), ruling it exceeded the Supreme Court's 50% reservation limit. The court directed the government and State Election Commission to conduct elections for gram panchayats, mandal praja parishads, zilla praja parishads, and urban local bodies within six weeks. The previous local bodies' terms end in March-April 2026.
