‘American Covid’ XFG Variant Cases Rise in England with Increased Hospital Admissions

England is seeing a rise in Covid-19 infections and hospital admissions linked to the XFG variant, nicknamed ‘American Covid.’ UK Health Security Agency data shows positive hospital tests rose from 5.9% to 7% in September, with hospital admissions up nearly 50%, including a 79% increase in London. XFG, identified in January, is a combination of two earlier variants, LF.7 and LP.8.1.2, and is driving the recent uptick in cases.
