Domestic aluminium manufacturers in India face rising raw material costs and competition from cheap imports. The Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India has urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to eliminate the current 8.25% effective import duty on primary aluminium in the upcoming budget. The duty includes a 7.5% basic customs duty and a 10% social welfare surcharge, which heavily impacts MSMEs due to their high raw material cost share.
