AIIMS Delhi has recorded a significant increase in burn injuries caused by homemade firecrackers made with potash (potassium nitrate) and gandhak (sulphur) during Diwali. Data from the Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery and Ophthalmic Sciences departments over the past two years show cases of potash-related burns and carbide gun injuries alongside conventional firecracker injuries.
