The Indian government has extended the service tenure of the first batch of Agniveers recruited under the 2022 Agnipath scheme by two years, making their total service period six years instead of four. After completing six years, Agniveers may be offered regular soldier positions based on their consent and army evaluation. Previously, only 25% were retained after four years, while 75% exited with a service fund package. This change aims to retain trained personnel longer and support both army needs and youth futures.
