75,000-Year-Old Neanderthal Shows Spear Injury and Care Signs
Researchers studying 75,000-year-old Neanderthal remains from Iraq's Shanidar Cave found evidence of a severe facial injury survived for at least a year and a 15mm hole in the shoulder blade likely caused by a wooden spear. These findings suggest the individual suffered a possibly fatal spear wound and received care from other Neanderthals.
