47% of Indian Taxpayers Earn Beyond Salaries, Says ClearTax Report

According to ClearTax's 2026 report, 47.3% of Indian individual taxpayers reported income from sources beyond traditional salaries, such as investments, business, freelancing, and cryptocurrencies. This marks a rise from 9.5% in AY 2022-23. Additionally, 24.4% reported multiple non-salary income sources, up from 3.5%. Complex income streams are reflected in tax filings, with 62% filing returns beyond the basic salary-focused ITR-1 in AY 2026-27.
