12 Cows Killed by Lightning in Kottayam, Kerala

Twelve cows were killed by lightning strikes on October 21, 2026, at Cheruvally Estate near Erumeli in Kottayam, Kerala. The cows were free-range when struck during heavy rain. A necropsy confirmed lightning as the cause of death. Signs of lightning were also found on nearby trees and ground. The carcasses were buried after examination. Cattle rearing is a major income source for workers there.
