SciencePhoto: The HinduStrong El Niño Does Not Always Cause Poor Indian Monsoon
Since 1950, seven Indian monsoons coincided with moderate or strong El Niño events. In five of these years, including 2026, monsoon rainfall was at least 10% below the long-term average, classified by the IMD as 'deficient'.
